Geophagus diamantinensis Matos, Costas & Santos, 2015, nueva descripción de una especie del género Geophagus.
El trabajo se ha publicado en Ichthyological Exploration of Freshwaters, en el número de noviembre, el título del artículo es "Geophagus diamantinensis, a new species of the G. brasiliensis species group from Chapada Diamantina, north-eastern Brazil (Cichlidae: Geophagini)" y los autores son José L. O. Mattos, Wilson J. E. M. Costa y Alexandre C. A. Santos.

"Geophagus diamantinensis, new species, is described from the Paraguaçu River basin, endemic from Chapada Diamantina region, Bahia state in north-eastern Brazil. It is recognized by both a tree-based and a character-based approaches for species delimitation, using mt-DNA and morphological data, respectively. Geophagus diamantinensis is distinguished from all other species of the G. brasiliensis species group by a deep urohyal bone, charactersof colour pattern and head slender. In addition, Geophagus diamantinensis can be distinguished from G. itapicuruensis by having more dorsal-fin spines and from G. obscurus by having subterminal mouth."
